Amazon.com So much has been said about disco-punk's King Midas, New York musician/producer James Murphy, that it's kind of hard to believe that we've had to wait until 2005 for the debut album from his dancefloor project, LCD Soundsystem. LCD's classic triumvirate of early singles--"Losing My Edge," "Give It Up," and "Yeah"--joined the dots between punk-rock, disco, and funk in a way that hadn't been seen since the New York downtown scene of the early '80s, but these are bravely relegated to a bonus disc in favor of a suite of new material that reworks the band's influences in new, often explicit ways: take "Movement," for instance--a homage to the Fall that finds Murphy barking "It's a fat guy/ In a T-shirt/ Doing all the singing!" over punchy analog synths, or the quietly majestic "Great Release," a doff of the cap to Brian Eno circa Taking Tiger Mountain. For all his encyclopedic musical knowledge, however, it's one of Murphy's strengths that he seldom seems uptight about the practice of music-making: it's how he can get away with penning a gonzo disco-punk number and naming it something as fantastically flippant as "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House"--and more importantly, it's why LCD Soundsystem succeeds as a splendid dance record as well as a smart intellectual exercise. --Louis Pattison
Album Description 2007 reissue of the single disc version of the Electro Rock band's debut album featuring one bonus track: "Yr City's A Sucker". Originally released in 2005, LCD Soundsystem's self-titled debut lived up to all the hype surrounding it and featured a modern hodge-podge of electronic sounds that owed a huge debt to their influences but remained original and exciting. we already did this in the 80's didn't we? June 17, 2010 Victor (New York, NY USA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ok, I'll give it 2 stars for being well-produced and catchy, BUT it's a direct ripoff from New Order, Bronski Beat, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, and later followers Daft Punk, Moby, etc. Even Talvin Singh and Kid Loco had that niche well (re)covered since the late 90's.
Liberating swifty licks/beats from other artists is nothing new, I just don't understand the flood of kids that think this groundbreaking.

I am suprised to see so many people supporting this crap. Two or Three tracks that are ok. But no way would I spend money on them. I make better beats than this messing around on fruity loops for half an hour. And the lyrics, kind of funny I guess. Oh well just my opinion. Those who gave this five stars are probably on drugs. If you're one of them and are reading this, please put down your crack pipe and give me some other examples of what you listen to so I can look it up and have a laugh.
Heavy Beat w/Wild Sounds May 23, 2009 Kathy W (Baltimore) Pretty cool stuff - I would say a definite 5 star in its class. Not the kind of stuff I would listen to every day but still great stuff. Nice beat. I love stuff with a strong heavy beat. I can do some serious dancing to this stuff or blast it while driving, or play it on the drums. This stuff is "in the groove!" It can also be party music--where you want the party to be lively. 2 CDs from 2005. Cool techno sounds woven into the music, too. I could do without the singing, but I won't hold it against the group. Saying the same words over and over again has no purpose, but the beat and techno more than makes up for the mindless verbal blather. (Many people like the verbal blather though.) Many of these songs are of sufficient length, too, again, making them great for listening or dancing. I hate it when I just get on the floor and get moving and the song is over. Fortunately, most DJs will at least mix a couple of songs together. Anyway, as you can see below, many are extended length. There is nothing distinctive I can say about each but they are all really cool and all the same type of music and beat. They bring out the ANIMAL in me! R-O-A-R!!! My son loves the album, too. I loaded it on my PC and ipod so I get to hear it now and then because he keeps "borrowing" my CD. About 100 minutes worth of music total in 16 tracks, so if you have only one CD hole in your car, this one will play for almost 1 ¾ hours without having to change it or listen to repeats. You could work out to this CD, too, if you wanted to. It will keep you moving. If not, check your pulse.

Missing item! May 5, 2009 Jennifer Munoz (Houston, TX) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
The description for this item was to have two CD's included, but there was only one that was sent. However, for the price I accepted the CD.
Whatever else you call it, LCD Soundsystem is groovy music January 25, 2009 doctormanny (Pittsburgh, PA) LCD Soundsystem is a very good CD that incorporates a nice mixture of guitars and synth beats along with some cool vocals. I'm not sure how to label the music, but I've noticed several reviewers describe it as "Discopunk," which works for me. A couple of the songs probably would have benefitted from having been edited a little, but that is not a big problem. I think that I prefer the second disc, which apparently contains the "older" songs that initially developed a following for LCD Soundsystem, but I've changed my mind about that several times already, which means that I think that they both are good. As other reviewers have noted, LCD Soundsystem also a great bargain, with two discs for the price of one. Highly recommended.
